Story: The timeless folkloric resilience of Assam, the tale of Tejimola; The story of a teenage girl, cruelly tortured and murdered by her evil stepmother while her father was away for business. After crushing her head with a rice pounder (commonly known as Dheki in Assam), Tejimola’s body is buried in her garden by her stepmother. But resisting complete death, she rebirths as a gourd plant from the same soil where her body was under. After a neighbour noticed the gourd crying in plea when intending to pluck it, the stepmother uproots the plant and throws it away on the bank of a river. But there too, the plant rebirths into a plum tree and starts speaking. In another attempt to kill Tejimola, the stepmother fells down the tree and flows it away in a river. Tejimola rebirths again into a lotus and keeps floating until her father reaches near her on a boat. The lotus transforms into a dove and convinces her father than she is his daughter. Both travel back to their home to punish the stepmother for her crime. In the end, Tejimola transforms back into human form to finally reunite with her loving father.
